Lead Gameplay Programmer

Job description

We’re hiring a Lead Gameplay Programmer for our client—a well-funded gaming startup led by industry veterans and currently building a mobile AAA title. In this role, you’ll lead the development of core gameplay systems using Unreal Engine (C++) and collaborate closely with designers, artists, and engineers to build scalable and engaging game mechanics.

Responsibility

• Design and implement high-quality gameplay systems using Unreal Engine C++.
• Lead the development of core gameplay mechanics including player controls, combat, AI behaviors, weapons, and abilities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, animation, art) to translate creative vision into functional gameplay.
• Work with production teams to plan, estimate, and deliver gameplay features on time.
• Optimize gameplay code for performance, scalability, and platform compatibility.
• Conduct code reviews, mentor junior programmers, and uphold coding standards and best practices.
• Debug, profile, and resolve gameplay issues across various systems.

Requirement

• 8+ years of experience in professional game development, with strong focus on gameplay programming.
• Expertise in Unreal Engine 5 and Unreal C++ development.
• Strong foundation in native C++ programming (not just Unreal-specific).
• Track record of building and optimizing gameplay systems in shipped or live game titles.
• Excellent knowledge of game architecture, OOP, design patterns, and performance optimization.
• Experience in multiplayer or networked gameplay environments is a strong advantage.
• Proven leadership skills including mentoring, technical direction, and code reviews.
• Excellent debugging, profiling, and optimization abilities.
• Experience with scripting systems like Blueprints or Lua.
• Familiarity with animation systems, physics engines, and AI frameworks.
• Comfort with rapid prototyping and iterative development cycles.
