Technical Director - Gameplay Programming

Job description

As Technical Director – Unreal Gameplay Programming, you will lead the gameplay engineering team and act as the technical authority on all aspects of gameplay systems development. You’ll bridge design and technology, bringing gameplay ideas to life through clean, scalable, and performant code within Unreal Engine 5.

Responsibility

• Define the technical vision and architecture for gameplay systems using Unreal Engine 5 and C++.
• Provide hands-on programming expertise in core gameplay mechanics such as combat, AI, movement, and multiplayer.
• Lead and mentor a team of gameplay engineers, ensuring high productivity and quality.
• Collaborate with Design, Art, and Animation teams to prototype and implement gameplay features.
• Drive performance optimization, scalability, and cross-platform reliability of systems.
• Establish and enforce best practices, coding standards, and efficient development workflows.
• Conduct code reviews, manage technical risks, and resolve complex engineering challenges.

Requirement

• 10+ years of professional experience in gameplay programming, with 5+ years in technical leadership or management roles.
• Expert-level hands-on experience with Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5) and C++ for gameplay system development.
• Shipped at least one AAA title as a Senior Gameplay Programmer or Technical Director.
• Deep knowledge of game architecture, performance profiling, and multiplayer systems.
• Experience integrating gameplay with animation, physics, and AI systems.
• Strong system design, debugging, and optimization skills.
• Effective leadership and mentorship abilities in a game development environment.
• Bonus: Familiarity with LiveOps, modular systems, GAS (Gameplay Ability System), CI/CD pipelines, and console certification processes.
